Corporation Creates Over 50,000 Jobs In 11 Months

The Ethiopia Industrial Parks Development Corporation announced that it has created permanent employment for more than 50,000 people over the past 11 months.

More than 30,000 temporary employment opportunities were also created, said Lelise Neme CEO of Ethiopia Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC), during a performance review.

Shed rental and service selling have generated 316 million birr and exports $110 million, more than 100% increase compared to the preceding year, she said.

Lack of water, electric power, and housing for employees were mentioned as the key challenges for new industrial parks.

In order to address these challenges, works are underway to drill boreholes and use alternative sources of energy. Manufacturing companies are also building houses for their employees, Lelise said.
